Chris Strachan and Estian Matthee met as teenagers when they attended the same high school, but it was only after school that they formed a close bond. Funnily enough, everyone seemed to think they were brothers, and so they went with it. You might as well call White Water Distillery a family business.

A BIT OF HISTORY
Chris has always been an entrepreneur at heart, starting as young as Primary School. His dad owned a convenience store and this was where he would learn about business and the profit it could carry. He sold toys to the children at school and quickly became the go-to-guy for the coolest gadgets on the block. Fast forward 20 years and Chris is a successful business owner.

He has great vision for White Water Distillery and seeks to produce the kind of drink that anyone can enjoy and appreciate.
After school, Estian knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life and so he jumped straight into his studies. He completed a B-Agric Oenology and Vitaculture at the University of Stellenbosch. He continued to complete an additional year, studying cellar management.
“I took a moment and thought to myself, why replicate a recipe for someone else, when I could create my own?”
While working as a winemaker, Estian was first introduced to the process of producing Gin and he immediately fell in love. Soon, he realised that he not only had a passion for producing craft liquor, but also that he had a talent for it.
